| History of the Family YMCA of the Desert
- 1982 Established YMCA of Riverside
previously offered programs in the Coachella Valley.
- 1982 - 1984 YMCA Capital Campaign
conducted for $3 million. Campaign acquired two acres of land in Palm Desert
- 1984 1985 Merger with Palm Desert
Youth Center on Portola Avenue
- 1986 YMCA purchased modular facilities
and moved the Youth Center and YMCA Offices to Magnesia Falls Park in Palm Desert
- 1987 YMCA began to provide before and after school programs at some Desert Sands Schools (on campus). Other programs that were started included Youth Basketball, Day and Resident Camp, and Gymnastics
- 1989 YMCA after school programs were licensed per directive of California Department of Social Services
- 1989 Plans begin with the City of Palm Desert for YMCA facility and construction/lease with the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency.
- 1990 YMCA Palm Desert Facility opened on San Pablo Avenue
- 1991 YMCA opened YMCA La Quinta Pre School
- 1994 Merger with Girls, Inc., in Indio. Board of Directors merged
- 1995 Doris Mechanick Preschool state contract acquired
- 1996 Gymnastics Center opened on Berkey Drive in Bermuda Dunes
- 1997 Rancho Mirage Child Development Center opened on Rancho Mirage Elementary school site - Jean Benson Preschool opened in February - YMCA/Girls, Inc., closed for renovations. Reopened in September
- 1999 YMCA opens Child Care Center at Carter School, structured as a ten year lease with the California Department of Education, La Quinta Preschool and Jean Benson Preschool state contracts acquired
- 2004 Acquired the former Palm Springs Youth Center and re-opened as a YMCA facility
